The Power of Visualization

Genevieve Behrend calls visualization “Your Invisible Power.” In her short book under the same name, she profoundly explains just how powerful each of us is. Just in her forward, she says, it is “a key to open up the way to the attainment of your desires, and to explain that Fear should be entirely banished from your effort to obtain possession of the things you desire.” WOW. When I read that, I thought, “I can have all that? I can visualize!”

I was a high-level gymnast for 17 years of my life. I used the power of visualization in order to help me in my efforts to perform the skills I was taught to do. I can honestly say that without visualization, I would not have been as successful as I became. Later, I became a gymnastics coach, and I passed along the visualization skill to my gymnasts. They had great success as a result.

I knew from direct experience that visualization worked. I knew that it was the key to success in sport. But how did that translate to life?

Behrend explains the ordered quality of visualization, as espoused by Thomas Troward, She breaks her mentor’s concepts down into easy-to-understand pieces and helps her reader grasp the simplicity of visualization and how profoundly it affects our lives everyday.

“If you train yourself in practice of deliberately picturing your desire and carefully examining it, you will soon find your thought and desires come and proceed in more orderly procession than ever before. Having reached a state of ordered mentality you are no longer in a state of mental hurry.” I love this concept, and I have found that if I become disciplined in visualizing those things that I want, what I don’t want falls away, and those things that I do want begin to show themselves in my life in a very prolific way.

This happened to me in my skills in the gym, this happened to my gymnasts that I coached, this happens for the clients that I coach, and this happens to me now in my life as a “regular” person.

I urge you to learn more about the power of visualization. You really do have more inherent power than you think. It turns out that we are all equipped with this ability; we simply must develop it.

If you’re interested in learning more, I can help you with that. I love teaching and empowering people to use their natural abilities!
